The bomb shelter is teeming with ghouls, including at least one Glowing One. Speak to them one more time to pep them up, and then get your biggest guns out. Upon entering, you'll see either Colin or Marty if you chose to allow one of them to join you. Exploring the area will eventually reveal a bunker beneath the house at Orwell Orchards. Handy robots are floating around that can cause some real trouble, in addition to ghouls roaming around the perimeter. You can choose either boy to assist you, but Carol Putnam will only let one of her sons leave the farm still needs tending to, after all.
Both boys make a case for joining up - Marty thinks being a knight would be cool, and Colin thinks being a Scribe would allow him to help the Appalachia. Both are enamored with the idea of joining the Brotherhood of Steel and will petition you to be allowed to join and help you on the quest. The Putnams have two sons: Colin and Marty. However, despite Rahmani's directions that you investigate alone, you have an option to take a companion with you. You'll be directed to Orwell Orchards, a farm that they suspect may be the source of the nest. The Putnams have run into Ghouls and suspect there's a nest nearby. You'll start by heading just northwest of the Nuka Cola plant and meeting the Putnams, a family of farmers who Rahmani and Shin encountered while en route to Fort Atlas. She wants to see how well you work without instruction, and you can do so by investigating reports of a Feral Ghoul nest. In addition to having the chance to resolve some previous Brotherhood stories, Rahmani has a test for you. Despite her Paladin rank, she fulfills the same role as many Elders do in Fallout titles. FIELD TESTINGįinally completing Shin and Valdez's trials, you'll meet the voice you heard on the Brotherhood message - Paladin Leila Rahmani. You'll also receive Valdez's letter of recommendation. 44 pistol is a powerful sidearm, boasting a reduced AP cost in V.A.T.S., as well as the two-shot and explosive legendary modifiers. You'll get some standard quest rewards for completing the mission, but most notably, you'll receive The Fact Finder. However, removing it triggers the ATLAS Security that's laid dormant for centuries! Once you defeat them, though, Valdez will be satisfied enough with you, especially once you identify the mysterious component as an Ultracite battery. Once you've collected all of these components, you'll discover a mysterious component. If you want to complete these in the ideal fashion, you'll have to pass some skill checks - Agility 8, Strength 4 and Intelligence 8, to be exact. Afterward, you'll attempt some repairs, requiring you to fight off some mole rats and survive an explosion. Valdez will quiz you afterward, so make sure you pay attention to what's actually wrong with the sub-section if you want to impress her. You'll collect some documents, discover some chewed up wires and run diagnostics on the damaged equipment. Valdez's test will be to accompany her into the sub-structure of Fort Atlas to determine what happened to the ATLAS Observatory's previous projects and what technology can be recovered. She's a lot more approachable than Shin, though she still has one primary goal: preserving old technology.
Scribe Valdez is in the interior, plugging away near a computer. From there, you'll make recommendations to Shin as to how you feel the Brotherhood should address the petitions. Once you've gotten their stories, you'll return to Shin.
You don't have to decide on how to handle them, just speak with them. Some of them are citizens looking for protection others are Raiders trying to sneak their way into the Brotherhood's armory.
